A&O Shearman‘s financial restructuring and insolvency team is largely based in New York and Dallas. It has an established record in domestic matters, though it also fields particular forte in cross-border engagements. It continues to represent a multitude of debtors and creditors in significant restructurings and bankruptcies. Frederic Sosnick is global co-head of restructuring and has an impressive record in international out-of-court restructurings and US chapter 11 cases. Dallas-based Luckey McDowell is US head of restructuring and has a primary focus on the energy industry. Mark Shapiro is a former investment banker and previously head of restructuring at a global hedge fund; he is noted for representing ad hoc creditors’ committees and equity holder committees in distressed situations, along with many company-side engagements. Sara Coelho and Dallas’s Ian Roberts are also key members of the team. Named individuals are based in New York unless stated otherwise. Emanuel Grillo, Daniel Guyder and Robin Spigel have left the firm.

‘Work very well as a team. Exchange of ideas, balance of workload to appropriate resources within the firm to provide for timely response and keeping billing in check.’
‘Luckey McDowell and Ian Roberts as partners are both extremely knowledgeable of the subject matter, very responsive and available at any hour of the day. They make you feel often that you are their only client. Especially while working with Luckey, you appreciate his balance of the technical nature of the issue with strategy and the business elements.’
