Highlight-Mandate
Instructed by Steve Bowen, a humanist and Chair of Kent Humanists. The case involved a successful judicial review challenge to the refusal of Kent County Council to allow Mr Bowen to join Group A of the local authority’s Standing Advisory Council for Religious Education on the basis because he was a humanist.
Instructed by TTT, a Muslim pupil at Michaela School in Brent. She was challenging the school’s ban on ‘prayer rituals’. This ban prevented her from praying in what she considered to be her free time during the lunch break. There was very significant interest in the case, (effectively a test case on the banning of prayer in a school), and also because of the high public profile of the Defendant school and its headteacher. The Judgment is awaited.
