Highlight-Mandate

Representing the Faculty of Intensive Care Medicine in intervening in a Supreme Court appeal, specifically in relation to an issue on the scope of reporting restriction orders, the outcome of which is likely to have a significant effect on the practice in the Court of Protection regarding identifying treating health and social care professionals moving forward.

Represented St George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in obtaining declarations from the court that an individual was brain stem dead and, therefore, it was lawful to withdraw his life-sustaining organ support.

Represented University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust in an application to move a patient, who had failed to understand, acknowledge, or take medical advice on her prognosis, to a palliative care treatment plan which included the withdrawal of life-saving dialysis.
