With its global network, DLA Piper LLP (US)’s New York-based team has expanded its project finance offering across energy and infrastructure sectors. Regarding infrastructure, the team has a strong track record of securing a broad array of funding and procurement structures, including PPP and PFI models. The department has also become sought after for its renewable energy expertise, from generation, storage and transmission. Joe Stefano heads up the practice and stands out on deals which involve financing or credit support provided by government agencies. Robert da Silva Ashley, who divides his time between New York and Miami, is ‘very responsive’ and focuses on complex project finance transactions in the energy sector across North and Latin America. As regional head of finance in Latin America, Margarita Oliva Sainz de Aja also advises financial institutions and corporations in Latin America, along with the MENA region. Miriam Figueroa, who operates out of San Juan and New York, has extensive PPP experience. Additionally, Oliver Wright specializes in project financing transactions in the mining and metals sector. Bruno Soares and Jennifer Wnek joined the team from A&O Shearman in February and March 2024 respectively.

  • Advised Doral Renewables LLC in connection with the US$392m project financing provided by an international syndicate of lenders led by Deutsche Bank AG NY Branch, and the related US$175m tax equity investment commitment provided by Bank of America, for the development, construction and operation of the 400MW Mammoth Solar project located in Indiana.
  • Advised Xinfra Fibra-E with the refinancing of a US$225m secured credit facility led by Deutsche Bank AG for construction and permanent financing of a 131MW combined cycle power plant and associated 18MW BESS facility located in Nuevo León, Mexico in connection with its acquisition by Xinfra.
  • Advised Stonehenge in arranging for the purchase of federal renewable production tax credits to be generated by the large utility-scale Pleasant Valley solar project located in Idaho and the large utility-scale Tierra Bonita solar project located in Pecos County, Texas.
